Sad Nobodies: simple everyday suicides

Drawings graphite, pencil,ink on paper
DATE 2013
dimensions 100X70 cm

The work consists of 12 drawings 100cmx70cm and 8 smaller ones. The materials used are: graphite, ink and pencils on medium surface drawing paper.

Each drawing depicts scenes of everyday life in urban environments, showing individuals in domestic settings with their daily routines, or in social gatherings. Although the scenes seem ordinary with detailed background activity, each one contains a suicide. The suicide goes deliberately unnoticed; it does not disrupt the flow of everyday life.

The smaller drawings are magnified details of the bigger drawings. Like an extra zoomed detail of a photograph of a crime scene, but in this case the details are of no significance to the crime. There are leaves of a tree, a wall paper detail, a piece of the carpet.

In today’s reality a person is unable to meet its promise of artificial emancipated life. The self-imposed norms, maintain a stranglehold lifestyle, a system that feeds back into the feeling of dissatisfaction. The society is ill and suffers from mental fatigue. The symptoms are manifested as emotional complications. Feelings of resignation, apathy, paralysis, analgesia. Stranger within you and stranger among strangers, unable to cope with the monster that has been created.
